V.   Announcements

VI. Reports

a)   Tournament Report - Allen Young.

i)     Canyon Classic: .

ii)   Wednesday Night League-  August 25th is the last week of WNL.  It will end with a team scramble.  Ties will face a playoff on hole 18 then, if necessary, chip-off from north side of 18 green.  Each team will pick one player to play the playoff.  We will pay out top 4 places.  $800, $500, $300, $100 payouts.  WNL League collected at about $1700, project to have $1900 at end of season.  Extra money will be used for food or drink on last night.

iii)  Presidents Cup - Scheduled for June  Chris Akiyama to get results to MGA from president’s cup.

iv)  Forever Tournament:  Since the email was sent out a week late, we will give until August 12th to complete July rounds, but no further extensions will be given.  Second rounds must be completed by August 31!

b)   Greens / Course Report- Stephan Garritson (NP):

i)     Bunkers- Bunker Sand is in!  Start with 8 & 15.  They will be kept a bit firm in the fairways  2” of sand throughout.  What is golf course sand.  TLC 1 is a 1mm sand particle.  Will not be too fluffy. 75% Augusta White with 25% Dessert Tan.

ii)   Haircut to the rough areas around green - A lot of areas will be taken down to fairway height so maintenance is easier.  Mostly around green complexes, 6th hole, 12th hole, will wrap around bunkers.  Generally, between bunkers and green there should be no rough.  Will look a little odd at first but will be trained over time to look good.

iii)  Surface Temperature Readings:  Range 165º, Fairways 115º

iv)    Board - What is happening with the Huts?

v)   Tee receptacles- Do we need them?

vi)  Tee placement -on white #1 will be set further from cart path in future.

vii)   Green speeds - With high temps the greens have been solid tined and just rolled, not cut.  Greens speeds will be slower, but will help plant health.  Todays Stimp reading was 11.

viii)                   Green Divots:  Players need to fix green divots.

ix)    Tee box on 9:  Working on fixing retaining wall.

x)   Huts over Sprinkler Equipment - Butt up to metal skid, smaller design will not need permitting.

xi)  USGA wants to simplify rules and speed up play.  SCGA was here examining the course to see how changing many of the OB (white Stake) areas to Red Stake laterals would affect the course rating and speed of play.  This is being done across the SCGA but our course is a good example of where this new ability (given be next years USGA rules) could significantly change a round of golf.

c)   Rules Report, Tom Somers-  Nothing to report.  Changes to the SCGA rules are not in play yet.  Cards at club do not match SCGA rating.

d)   Couples Report, Vern Tolo  - 1 Day Labor day tournament.  MGA supplements $1000 yearly.  Couples has used $600.

e)   Handicap Report, David Catlin - Many violations, no signatures, wrong dates, all in shoebox.
