MODIFIED ECLECTIC
After completion of Round 1 and before golfers submit their scorecard to the Tournament Committee, golfers choose the 6 individual hole scores they wish to "protect" for the modified eclectic scorecard and "select" the 6 individual holes they believe can be better scored in Round 2. The 6 remaining holes are left "open" to take the best score played over two days.
Much thought goes into "protecting" the 6 best scores after the first day of play. It does not necessarily mean you choose the 6 birdies posted in Round 1. Depending on your skill level and the degree of difficulty for each individual hole, this is where it gets fun where in some cases a par at the #1 handicap hole might be worth more than a birdie at the #18 handicap hole, depending on how well the other holes were played on day 1.
It gets more interesting with determining your confidence level on which 6 holes you "select", because you are forced to take the scores from those 6 individual holes the next day. These 6 individual holes typically determine whether you are in the money or out of contention. All the pressure to win ride on these 6 holes you are convinced can be played better!
Golfers must also consider which 6 holes to leave "open". These holes are where the better score from either day of play after Round 2 is taken to the Modified Eclectic scorecard. These holes are the hedge after Round 1, where we hope to do better in Round 2 to improve our chances of winning the overall grand prize. The tournament can also be won or lost depending on how much improvement is made on day two. Worse play on these holes often leads to lost opportunity to win out right, so the decision to choose which holes stay open should not be taken lightly.
Over all winners are determined after the completion of Round 2. The modified eclectic scorecard will consist of the individual scores from the 6 "protected" holes played in Round 1, the 6 "selected" holes played in Round 2 and the better score from either day of play for the 6 "open" holes.
Tie breakers will be determined by using the USGA recommended method of matching scorecards. For the individual round prizes, the individual round scorecards will be used. For the overall two-day tournament prizes, the Modified Eclectic scorecards will be used.
