Subject: Club Report January-December 2019 January 31, 2019
To: WSGA Pacific Desert Area Vice President
1. Membership: During this period we served 75 members which consisted of 47 Full Members, 5 Honors only, 3 Non-Playing Member, 7 Dual Members (our club constitution and by-laws were changed to eliminate the confusing term Associate members as it pertains to a member who belongs to two clubs and paying per-capita dues at the primary club and to distinguish it from the GHIN definition), 3 Honorary Members, 1 Adult Junior Golfers and 9 Junior Golfers. We also keep in contact with past and prospective members through our e-blast system to let them know club activities, results of our golf outings and of course invitations to come join our club. Our membership dues are $95 for per capita members, $50 for Dual and Honors Only Members, and $36 for The SCGA Honors Travel Club and if you join after June 1st dues are prorated. We ended 2017 serving 73 members and ended 2018 serving 75 members –our aggregate gain was +2, therefore meeting one of our goals of increasing our membership. Our initial membership drive for 2019 indicates a net gain in new members with approximately the same renewal rate as compared to this time last year – so our goal to increase membership is being met – we anticipate that our total overall membership will rise to 80 with over 55 per capital members by the end of September 2019.
2. Finance: The club is solvent and maintains a budget that includes encumbered and liability funds in its bank account. Board reports display an operating capital for contingencies for the board to monitor. We have redefined the roles of the Financial Secretary and Treasurer to indicate a more accurate portrayal of transparency and checks and balances.
3. The Pacific Desert Classic: The Inland Empire and Honors Golf Clubs are busy planning the 2019 PDC to be held April 13th & 14th of 2019 at Los Serranos North & South Golf Courses – both are challenging, scenic and offer some of the best golf in Southern California. With this being the last joint effort between the two clubs to sponsor the PDC we expect to have an exceptionally great time and the hospitability suite will feature “homemade” cornbread, red beans & rice, and greens!!!
4. THGC Junior Golf Program 501(c)(3) –. 2018 was the second year for The Honors Junior Golf Benefit Tournament held at the Mountain Vista Santa Rosa course in Palm Desert California. Using a team scramble format, we had 87 golfers, 21 sponsors, a great silent auction, an outstanding banquet dinner where prizes were award to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and last place teams. We also published a program booklet that featured the accomplishments of some of our past and present juniors. We raised over $10,000 dollars for our Junior Golf Budget. Our Junior Golf program continues to attract topnotch golfers and with the continued support of the communities, dedicated efforts of our Director – James Daigre, Director Emeritus James W. Lewis, Tournament Director Ted Chapman, and also thanks to the networking of our members and parents, we were able to get our Juniors exposed and entered into events that enhances their golfing experiences at the highest level of competition for their age groups and have brought national attention to their talents. We are very proud of our Junior Golf Program and of our junior golfers by the way they represent WSGA and THGC. We are planning to send 9 junior golfers or more with chaperones to the 2019 WSGA Junior Championships in Las Vegas.
5.Our Junior Golfers: Another banner year for our juniors – Amari Avery was named “Toyota Tour Cup” Player of the Year for the second year in a row; Alexis Johnson, Shani Waite, and Gabrielle Lawrence all represented THGC well at the 2018 WSGA Alan Bennett Championships. Isaiah Wilson was winner of the boys division at the WSGA Alan Bennett Junior Golf Championship and earned an automatic entry into the Junior PGA Championship to be held later this year in Hartford, Connecticut, Gabrielle Lawrence is the top player on her high school team and was named to the all Inland Empire team; Artises “Bear” Huff, along with golf is playing competitive soccer and basketball – his current 8.2 index is on the way down. The newest member of the junior golf club, Marley Franklin is currently carrying a +2.7 index and just recently won another AJGA event. Kendel Hodges is enrolled at South Mountain Community College, a CC powerhouse, while working his way back to a Division I Scholarship and continues to play golf at a high level.
6. Goals for 2018-2019: Make membership more aware of established club goals and present measured results, establish a monthly newsletter to keep membership informed established a budget process for both THGC and the Junior Golf Program, foster more transparency in club operations and promote team work. Update Junior Golf by-laws and produce a Junior Golf Constitution and align the SCGA Travel Club and The Honors Junior Golf Constitution with the Honors Golf Club constitution
