MEN'S CLUB LOCAL RULES
Relief from the creek/barranca ONLY on holes 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 16 and 18 may be taken by using the drop area on the green side of the penalty area.
OUT OF BOUNDS: Perimeter fences, the driving range and the left side of Hole #12 are out of bounds. The out of bounds line for perimeter fences and the driving range is defined by the nearest inside points of the fence posts or white stakes at ground level. The out of bounds line for hole #12 is defined by the inside edge of the white line.
NOTE: The driving range fence on the ninth hole is attached to poles that are sixteen inches in diameter. OB is defined by the inside edge of these poles at ground level so that makes the fence sixteen inches out of bounds.
EMBEDDED BALL: USGA local Rule for embedded balls is in effect at all times - free relief anywhere "through the green". (Rule 25-2)
PUMP HOUSES: The building on hole #9 and the fence on Hole #16 are immovable obstructions. Relief without penalty may be taken within one club- length of the nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole. (Rule 24-b) No free relief from the bushes. You may deem the ball unplayable and drop a ball within two club-lengths of the spot where the ball lay, but not nearer the hole. One stroke penalty.(Rule 28c)
IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS: All cart paths and roads, artificially surfaced or not, yardage plates and sprinkler heads are immovable obstructions and relief without penalty may be taken within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole. (Rule 24-2b)
GROUND UNDER REPAIR: Ground under repair will be marked with a white line and when relief is taken the ball must be dropped, without penalty, within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief. (Rule 25-1)
WATER HAZARDS: The creek that runs through the course is deemed to be a water hazard and must be marked in yellow. Relief may be taken, under penalty of one stroke, by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played. (Rule 26-1a) Or drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the hazard the ball may be dropped. (Rule 26-1b) A ball that lies within a water hazard may be played without a penalty stroke, (Rule 26-2) However you must not move anything in the hazard or touch the ground or water with your club or hand. (Rule 13-4)
LATERAL WATER HAZARDS: All lakes on the course are lateral water hazards. Also the designated areas that are deemed to be lateral water hazards are the left side of Hole #4 from the out of bounds wall up to almost the green and up the left side and around the back of hole #11. For relief on Hole #11 you may no longer drop 2 club-lengths from the margin of the hazard. You must use the drop area in the fairway for shots going to the left of the fairway and the drop area behind the green is only to be used for shots going over the green between the two sets of double red stakes. Lateral water hazards must be marked in red. Any ball that crosses any part of the island on Hole #17 may be dropped on the island but must be dropped in the ball drop at the back of the island.
SO CALLED FRENCH DRAINS: All the French drains are all covered with grass so they are now in play.(No free relief) The ditch on hole #9 under the bridge by the first bunker on the right is now in play. If your ball or stance is effected by water you get a free drop the water is over flow from the lake and is casual water.
STONES IN BUNKERS: For safety reasons stones in bunkers are movable obstructions and may be removed.(Rule 24-1 applies). # 2 PROTECTIVE FENCE HOLE: Relief may be taken by dropping within one club-length of the nearest point on the course that is no nearer the hole, gives line of sight relief and avoids interference by the fence. AERATION HOLES::: Through the green, a ball that comes to rest in or on an aeration hole may be lifted, without penalty, cleaned and dropped, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green. On the putting green, a ball that comes to rest on or in an aeration hole may be placed at the nearest spot not nearer the hole that avoids the situation.
DISTANCE - MEASURING DEVICES: For all competition in the Vista Valencia Mens Club a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only.
