All Away Events (except the Desert & Winter Classics) are Stroke Play events.
Home Events formats include, but are not limited to: Stroke Play, 2-Man Best Ball, Chicago, Match Play, and others.
We have two types of Events:
- Sanctioned: these are official events supported by the club where a portion of club funds are contributed. All USGA rules are in effect. In all Sactioned events Scrip can be used and won.
- Non-sanctioned: these are unofficial events often organzied by the club or one of it's members. Scrip may NOT be used/won in non-sanctioned events. Most officail club policies do not apply to these events and certain local rules may be in place. They are just casual, fun events.
All Sanctioned Club event prizes are in the form of Scrip. Prizes typically inlcude payouts for:
- Low Gross
- Low Net
- Closest-to-the-Pin (on Par 3s)
- Gross Skins
- Longest Drive (occasionally)
Payout amounts and number of places are dependant on participation.

Stroke Play
Chicago
In Chicago, players start with a negative amount of points, based on handicaps, then add positive points during the round. The idea is to get from the negative to the positive, clearing your "hurdle" (the term used for your starting total of negative points) by as much as possible.
Negative points begin at -39 for scratch golfers. A 1-handicapper starts with -38, a 2-handicapper with -37, and so on up to a 36-handicapper who starts with -3 points.
During the round, positive points are added on this basis:
- Double Bogey or worse are worth 0 points
- Bogeys are worth l point
- Pars are worth 2 points
- Birdies are worth 4 points
- Eagles are worth 8 points
Not everyone will be able to clear their hurdle, so the highest point total - whether that is 15 or minus-15 - wins.
2-Man Scramble
Both players tee off. After each shot, the best of the two shots is selected and both players play from that spot, until the ball is holed. One team score is recorded.
2-Man Shamble
Like in a scramble, both players tee off and the best ball of the two tee shots is selected. Both players move their balls to the spot of the best ball. From this point, the hole is played out as best ball, with both of the players playing their own ball into the hole.
2-Man Best Ball (Better Ball)
Each player plays his own golf ball throughout the round, and on each hole the low score - or "best ball" - of the team serves as the team score. For example: On the first hole, Player A gets a 5, player B gets a 4, , so the team score for that hole is 4, because the low score of the team was B's 4.
Six-Six-SixHoles 1-6: Best Ball
Holes 7-12: Aggragate
Holes 13-18: Alternate Shot
Devil Ball
Each group of four players in a Better Ball format. One ball is then is marked in some way to designate it as the "devil ball." That ball rotates among players, changing after each hole. For example, Player A uses it on the first hole, B on the second, C on the third, D on the fourth, then back to A on the fifth and so on through the round.
In Devil Ball, two scores per hole are added together to become the team score for that hole. Here's the catch: One of those two scores must be from the player playing the devil ball on that hole. So on each hole, the team score will be the score of the player with the devil ball, plus the lowest score of the other three players on the team.
If a team loses their devil ball, they are no longer eligible for the winning prize, but are eligable for the consolation prize.
Red, White & Blue Toy Drive
On hole 1, all players tee off from the RED tee markers. On hole 2, tee off from the WHITE tee markers. On hole 3, tee off from the BLUE tee markers. On hole four, tee off from the RED tee markers, and so on through 18.
Toy Donations: Each player has 5 strokes removed from their course handicap. You gain one stroke back for each unwrapped toy you donate (max 5 strokes up to your full handicap). This applies to the NET tournament only. Low Gross remains low gross.
Donations go to the Rancho Cucamonga VA Clinic to support miliatry families at Christmas
President's Cup Qualifier
This is a standard stroke play event. Players play to their full course handicap based on their current index. Number of Qualifiers are based on the number of total participants. Qualifiers are based on NET results.
President's Cup Championship Bracket
Qualified players will play in a Match Play braket depending on their flight from the qualifier. The top seed in A flight will play an individual match against the bottom seed in A flight. Same for B flight. If the bracket is an odd number, first round byes may apply. The players are responsbible for arraninging, playing and reporting their individual matches. Each match must conclude within 2 weeks of the previous round deadline. Players handicaps are based on their CURRENT index (not their index when the qualifier was played). Matches will be played to the lowest handicap. That is, if player A gets 10 strokes, and Player B gets 12 strokes. Player B will recieve a stroke on the two hardest holes on the course, Player A will recieve no strokes.
